Xinyu Wang and Tatiana Prozorova meet in the Singapore quarterfinals in a section of the draw blown open by Alexandra Eala's exit.
Prozorova produced the upset of the week so far, beating third seed Eala 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 in roughly three hours. She saved seven set points in the opener and still found a way back, which says a lot about her fight. She also needed three sets to get past Sofia Costoulas in the first round, so fatigue is a real concern.
Wang has been more efficient. She crushed eighth seed Donna Vekic 6-1, 6-2 in the first round and then beat qualifier Joanna Garland 7-5, 6-4. Her flat, aggressive hitting from both wings has been on point, and she has spent far less time on court than her opponent.
Wang's ability to take the ball early should put Prozorova on the back foot and prevent her from grinding the match into another long battle. Prozorova's best chance is to extend rallies and hope Wang's error count rises.
Freshness and form favour Wang.
**Prediction: Wang in straight sets. Confidence: medium.**
