Alycia Parks leads this head to head 2-1 and won the most recent meeting 6-4 6-4 in the first round at Roland Garros in May. She is still the underdog at 2.92, with Fernandez at 1.40.
The market is pricing the surface, not the history. Parks is in this draw as a replacement for Sorana Cirstea, and her game is built almost entirely around a serve that reaches the high 120s and a forehand she takes enormous cuts at. On an indoor hard court that rewards exactly that, she is dangerous. What she has not solved is the second serve and the error count when the first one stops landing, and Kallang's conditions do not hide a 45 percent first-serve day.
Fernandez is the more complete competitor. Her returning position, deep and early, is specifically effective against big servers, and her lefty forehand into the ad court takes away Parks's preferred wide serve pattern. She also plays the long points better, which decides matches when both players are missing.
If Parks serves above 60 percent she wins. That has not been a reliable assumption this season.
Fernandez in two, with a tiebreak somewhere.
